Golf Academy Instructors

Aaron Jacobson, Director of Instruction

A native of Willmar, Minnesota, Aaron Jacobson has been at Rush Creek Golf Academy for nine years, taking over as Director of Instruction in 2009.  He started his teaching career with the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, then moving on to Desert Mountain Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.  He has been fortunate to work with and be influenced by some excellent instructors along the way including Jim Flick, Ron Gring, Brad Brewer and John O'Leary III.  Aaron has been a Class A member of the Professional Golfers Association of America since January 2000.

During his time at Rush Creek, Aaron has taught seven students who have gone on to Division I scholarships and coached many others who have played Division II and III college golf.  Aaron continues to work with some of the best up and coming juniors in the state of Minnesota.  He has also coached multiple local club champions, top local amateur players, and local PGA professionals.

As an accomplished player himself, Aaron won the 1990 Minnesota State AA High School Golf Championship.  He was a five time winner on the Bold Stroke Tour in Western Texas and New Mexico during the mid 1990' and in 1999 he was the Mississippi Assistants Champion.  From 2000-2001 he competed on the Hooters and Dakotas Tour and in various state open championships across the country.  More recently, Aaron qualified for and competed in the 2010 National PGA Club Professional Championship.  He continues to work on his game by competing in both local and national PGA events.

Aaron is also a certified club fitter.

 Luke Benoit, Teaching Instructor

Luke is beginning his 3rd year at the Rush Creek Golf Academy. He is a Class A PGA member who grew up in Faribault, MN and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a degree in financial economics. While at Gustavus, Luke was a 3-time All-American, Academic All-American, and 2004 NCAA runner up. After graduation, Luke turned professional, playing in various events over the next 2 years on the Hooters, Dakota, and Nationwide Tours, notching several top 10 finishes.

In addition to his work here at Rush Creek, Luke continues to serve as the Head Women’s Golf coach at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. In 2011, Luke was named NCAA Midwest region coach of the year. This past fall, the Ole's won the MIAC Conference Championship, shattering virtually all tournament records in the process. The team is currently ranked #6 in the nation.

In 2009, Luke graduated with a Masters degree in Kinesiology from the U of MN, where he studied biomechanics, motor learning, sport psychology, and child development. In 2010, Luke became one of only a few select instructors in MN to complete the PGA Certified Professional program for instructions. He is also TPI certified as an expert in fitness (Titleist Performance Institute).

Luke's teaching philosophy has emerged largely from his educational background and experience working with a wide array of beginning golfers, accomplished players, and top instructors. Luke believes that curiosity about the learning process is his best asset as a teacher and he remains acutely interested in the latest research and trends in golf instruction. He believes that finding new ways to connect with students to make the game easier and more intuitive is the new frontier in golf instruction. While not a single method teacher, Luke is a proponent of the one plane swing for golfers who possess adequate mobility and stability.

Although Luke spends a majority of his time coaching and teaching golf, he continues to play at a high level. In 2011, Luke finished t4th in the Tapemark and t2nd in the Minnesota Club Professional Championship. In total, he has won more than 15 MN section tournaments as a professional.

When he has free time, Luke enjoys traveling. In 2009, Luke volunteered for 4 months to teach kids golf in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. While there, he coached the Bhutanese national golf team and also won the 2009 Bhutan Open. The Bhutan Open is considered the "highest" Open Championship in the world because it is played at 9,000 feet, an ideal altitude for hitting drives over 400 yards!
